Nerd Girls: How To Get That X-Men Punk Storm Look

The past year or so has seen a somewhat surprising punk inspired trend spring into high-street stores, and whilst I’ve found this an absolutely glorious turn of events as it then made certain clothes and accessories I loved amazingly accessible. It’s also been slightly surreal as it meant the most unlikely characters imaginable were now traipsing around kitted out in punk attire. Say whaaaat.

Nonetheless, we still love it and are going to indulge ourselves entirely on it and concentrate this weeks look-book on the Punk Rock trend, with Storm from X-Men the perfect character to build this look around.

As with most comic book based characters, Storm has been depicted in a multitude of ways, always amazingly sexy, but her look in particular from the late 80′s to early 90′s was fantastically punky and gives us a beautiful starting point. Her trademark hair, her edgy clothes, her dark and complicated back-story. Perfect fit.

Bandeau Top

We’ll dive right in and go straight for the most relevant pick, both in terms of current trends and in terms of our inspiration. I’ve chosen a bandeau top, these are all the rage at the moment, and whilst I realise it’s Autumn/Winter and the bandeau is probably not going to be in stores for much longer, I don’t think Storm would mind it being slightly nippy out.

This particular bandeau has a punky wet-look finish with striking pink lightning detail. At £4.99 with free delivery, it is a total bargain and is something that is bang on trend during 2013.

Leggings

If you’re anything like me, you probably won’t feel particularly comfortable wearing something like a bandeau top without a little bit more coverage. So for the next piece of our Storm puzzle I’ve chosen a completely predictable pair of black wet-look legs, but with the all important high waist that eliminates the threat of looking skanky that a bandeau top ominously poses.

It’s another cheeky little bargain at £12.99 and is something that’s going to work well with anything in your wardrobe. The wet-look finish is something that’s been around for quite a few years, I’m guilty of indulging in it far too heavily – wet look legs, wet look skirts, pleather this and pleather that, but it’s fabulous and sometimes tacky is amazing, especially when it’s cheap as chips!

Shoes

Speaking of bargains, if you’ve been following my look-books/ fashion works up until now, you will be astounded to learn that the shoes I’ve chosen are less than £100. In fact, they’re actually mega cheap at £9.99. Shock, Horror! Who would have thought.. but they’re amazing and I will definitely be snatching a pair up. They have the classic spikes that have apparently infected every clothing store in the universe, this year, and just match up with this punky/stormy look so neatly.

For this look I would opt for the black pair, but it’s one of the nice little perks of eBay stores that you can take your pick.

Okay, Okay, so you’re probably wondering why on earth everything I’ve chosen is so cheap. I know I’m usually guilty of choosing relatively pricey items because, whilst I love a bargain, I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for and that fashion pieces sometimes need to be viewed as an investment… well it was just a happy coincidence that my picks up until now justify the price of my next pick.
